Today 65 children from Escola Municipal Tomoharu Kimbara won the book O Alfaiate de Gloucester from Instituto Fazenda São Pedro in another event of book donation, at the rural area of Valinhos/SP.
The event was organized by a partnership between the Climbing the Beanstalk project and the school’s director, Tatiana Chamma, who was also given one of our Baú de Histórias.
The team gave a brief presentation on the project before giving the books to students from the 2nd to 5th grades. The children immediately opened the packages with joy and excitement.
The school Tomoharu Kimbara was founded on the 70s in an area donated by Associação Cultural Nipo-Brasileira and has about 180 students from the rural area of Valinhos. It has a library and many projects related to literature, such as Semana Literária, which is already at its 9th edition this year.
The city of Valinhos is part of Circuito das Frutas and school Tomoharu Kimbara is in an area that produces fig, grapes, strawberries, guavas and persimmons. Many of the parents of students from Tomoharu Kimbara work on plantations of these fruits. The city has also preserved woodlands, which correspond to 7 percent of its total area.
